"Josephine Baker, the star of the Moulin Rouge show in the 1930s, once said: "I have two loves : my country and Paris". This has become my motto and my main reason for creating La Fayette Travel.
Having said that, I chose the Eiffel tower because it is THE symbol of Paris. It is at the same time modern and classic, beautiful and gracious, although in its early days, it was very criticized and a number of French artists considered it ugly and useless. From this monument, we can enjoy the most beautiful views over Paris and upon it, we have organized some extraordinary evenings. At the time of its construction, it was the highest monument of the world, culminating at 300 meters high. Gustave Eiffel, who built it, also participated in the construction of the symbol of the United States of America: the Statue of Liberty. With the General La Fayette, he symbolizes the friendship between France and the USA. But Gustave Travel didn't appeal to me as a good name for our agency!
One of the best moments to view it is at night, when it sparkles every hour, or better still, on July 14th, Bastille Day, where great firework displays take place at the Trocadero. I pass in front of it every day and at all times of the day and never get tired of looking up to it." |
